Intra-org vs Inter-org migration

My company is in the process of migrating from Exchange 5.5 to 2K3. I've
been looking at the different deployment methods to determine the best
direction to take. My question or concern that has been raised is about
doing an Intra-org migration. Are any changes made to the existing 5.5
server that we need to be aware of. Our concern is 5.5 is no longer
supported and we are on our last leg with current server. A loss of data
would be a big problem. The system would of course be backed up before the
process. Is one method safer than the other, and are there any concerns we
should know about. This may sound paranoid, but I haven't found any
resources that address this. Thanks...

An Intra-organizational migration is the route you should take unless you
have a compelling reason to the contrary.

Thanks for the response, Ed. One issue we are having with our current 5.5
server is the Offline Address Book is not working correctly. I'm not sure if
this problem would follow to the new server? Also, in my previous response,
I was wondering if the intra-org migration would make any changes to the
current 5.5 instance other than having to install the ADC for a phased
approach. We would use the ADC for coexistance in either scenerio. I've
been leaning toward the intra-org, but one of our team members has concerns
of any negative affects.

Exchange 2003 will generate an entirely new offline address book. After you
move your users, however, you might have to get them to create new profiles
to shake off the old offline address book and use the new one.
